How do modern electric storage heaters work?

Storage heaters work by heating ceramic bricks during the night when the energy is cheaper. This heat “bank” is then stored till the daytime when it can be slowly released around your house, during the time that you need it most. Correctly run electric storage heaters are effective and can be run according to your financial position.
Due to the improved technology of modern-day storage heaters, you can set the timers on the storage heaters to release the heat only when you are there to feel the benefit. If you are out during the day, you can set your storage heaters to come on in the early afternoon at a low temperature, before increasing the setting for the evening when the air temperature drops outside. The ECO scheme brings you electric storage heater funding
As part of the Government’s policy on reducing climate change, and improving fuel poverty, they created the ECO (Energy Company Obligation) scheme. This means that the energy companies must put a portion of their profits into improving the efficiency of older, less environmentally friendly properties.
This scheme is designed to improve the quality of the existing housing stock and ensure that the older properties become more environmentally friendly and cheaper to run, by measures such as installing central heating or storage heaters. Modern housing is subject to much stricter regulation around its energy efficiency and is often more economical to run. The storage heater funding is available to homeowners and to those who live in private rented properties.
People in housing association or local authority housing are not eligible for free storage heaters under the funding. The eligibility is based around the tenant not the landlord of the property, but you will need to speak to your landlord before having any work done such as fitting storage heaters or central heating. However, it will benefit your landlord to have a heating system in the property. The money for the funding is already allocated by the energy companies as part of their contractual obligations.
